The 1m2f handicap won by Apercu here last month could prove a significant piece of form, with five of the first seven home in that competitive event renewing rivalry, and SOARING MONARCH gets the vote. He didn't enjoy the clearest of passages in sixth and races off just a 1lb higher mark than when landing a valuable 1m4f Listowel handicap last autumn. Lope Des Lilas was thought good enough to run in the Irish Oaks last year and went close on her only previous handicap start at Cork in April. Beset has done little wrong since joining current connections this term and remains on an attractive mark. |
LOPE DE LILAS ran well at Listed level in France last time and finished runner up off 2lb lower when last seen in a handicap. The form of that race has been franked and with the promise of more to come over this longer trip she gets the verdict. Handicap debutant First Ascent looks the greatest threat off a lenient opening mark having shown a consistent level of form in maidens though the market can often be the best guide for his yard. Veteran Ceallach arrives in good form and though he's always been a better horse on the AW he is dangerous to dismiss off a lower mark on this surface. |

Bit in hand scored by 1 1/4l off 75 over 11f at Sligo penultimate start; second beaten 1 1/2l off 81 last time; cheekpieces first time; significant jockey booking; probably bit to come starting out for new yard |

Ran to form 1 1/4l third in a maiden over 1m5f at Down Royal most recent run; down in trip; consistent; opening mark lenient; very interesting off light weight |
